Background:
Classic Mai Tai, a tropical cocktail originating from the Polynesian-themed bars of California in the 1940s, has become a staple drink in tiki culture with its refreshing blend of rum, lime juice, and almond syrup.
Ingredient:
Lime wedge, for rimming
1 tbsp. chili powder
2 oz. dark rum
2 oz. white rum
1/4 c. freshly squeezed orange juice
Juice of 1 lime
2 oz. orange Curaçao
1 oz. orgeat syrup
Ice
2 tbsp. grenadine
Pineapple wedges, for garnish
Lime slices, for garnish
Maraschino cherries, for garnish
Steps:
Step 1 Rim 2 glasses with a lime wedge. Place chili powder on a small plate and dip rim into chili powder and turn to coat.
Step 2 Divide rums, orange juice, lime juice, Curaçao, and orgeat syrup between glasses and stir. Fill with ice then divide grenadine between glasses.
Step 3 Garnish with fruit to serve.
Conclusion:
Cocktails are best enjoyed right after making and do not work as a make-ahead drink because the soda will go flat.
